"Verbal agreement in place" with Wolves set to sign £26m star "this week"

Wolverhampton Wanderers are making a late play to bring in several new faces and could be on the verge of landing a talented defender, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Wolves search for signings after consecutive Premier League defeats

Underwhelming Premier League losses against Manchester City and Bournemouth have left Wolves pointless in their first two league matches of the campaign, emphasising the need for signings to help Vitor Pereira continue his mission at Molineux.

The 57-year-old has made no secret of his plans to add to a squad lacking in depth before the end of the window, and he reiterated that desire after a frustrating 1-0 loss on the South Coast last weekend that saw Toti Gomes get himself sent off.

He told BBC Sport: “Football is football, it is all about mistakes. The only way I know to correct mistakes is to work. We need to give time for the new players to adapt in this league.

“It is different when you come from different leagues and feel the intensity and pressing which is difficult. This group works very hard and we will see in the end what our position is in the market. Two defeats is not what we were expecting but we know what we want and we will try to improve our game.”

Indeed, adaptation after mistakes is a key part of football, but Wolves fans are desperate for reinforcements, and they may achieve their wish amid the Old Gold’s escalating pursuit of Getafe star Christantus Uche.

Arsenal’s Jakub Kiwior is also a target for Wolves as the window draws to a close, though they could be about to complete a signing to strengthen central defence that would go down a treat at Molineux.

Romano: Wolves now expected to sign Girona defender Ladislav Krejci

Taking to X, Romano has confirmed that Wolves are ‘expected’ to sign Ladislav Krejci from Girona in a deal set to be worth around £26 million, with ‘formal steps to follow soon’ after reaching an agreement with the Czechia international on personal terms.

Previously, the Old Gold were said to be working through the details needed to land Krejci, which they now appear to have concluded, and it is only a matter of time before he is officially unveiled.

Winning 102 duels in La Liga last term, per Fotmob, Krejci was a standout for Girona as he registered two goals and one assist in 36 appearances across all competitions.

Predominantly a central defender, the 26-year-old has also played at left-back in the past and offers valuable cover for Pereira over the course of a long season once his side manage to secure his signature.

Fresh faces are needed after a disappointing start to the season, and Krejci may be someone who can help the Old Gold avoid dicing with relegation after their close shave last term.
